How long has Custard & Cakes Creamery been doing business in Roxborough?

We have been family owned and operated since 1955.  My grandfather started and operated the business for 25 years.  Originally, it was called  Dairy Delite, but the locals referred to it as the custard stand.  He started with just soft ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes and banana splits.  In 1980, my parents took over and added ice cream cakes, homemade hard ice cream and food to the menu.  Today, the third and fourth generation of our family own and operate the business.

Because everyone loves ice cream!

 

What is on your menu?

We sell soft ice cream (custard), homemade hard ice cream, frozen yogurt, water ice, ice cream novelties and custom decorated ice cream cakes.  One of our more popular items lately, has been our ice cream cupcakes.  We also have hot dogs, hot sausages and meatball sandwiches. 

 

What separates you from other ice cream shops?

Everything is made on the premises and we pride ourselves in using only quality ingredients for everything we make.   Philly HOT LIST voted us Best Ice Cream Shop for 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009.  We also placed in the Top 5 for Best Water Ice in 2012 and 2011! 

 

What is the difference between your ice cream and custard?

Our custard does not contain eggs.

 

What are your goals for 2013?

Maintain the quality and good service my grandfather started and making improvements to the business to keep up with the demand.
